It formely operated as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in the years 1928 to1930.It was formed by Paul and Joseph Galvin. Now defunct as of January 4, 2011, it was succeeded by Motorola Mobility, Motorola Solutions, NXP Semiconductors, ON Semiconductor, Arris Group and Cambium Networks. It had a global presence, however currently it operates under Lenovo.
It has been a company of many firsts, being the first ever company to produce car radios as of 1930 and the first walkie talkie in 1947 after it was contracted to do so by the US Government. It was also the first ever company to make a smartphone in 1999 and it was the bestselling mobile company with its Motorola RAZR brand until Iphone was launched in the US.
