It was started in 1930 when its founder William F. Rumpke ran a junkyard in Cincinnati. So that his customers could receive services, they could offer chicken, old cars and bartered sheep. One day one of his customer paid six young pigs as compensation of services offered. He enlisted some relatives to search for garbage with some old trucks. The current president Emeritus and the chairman of the board began helping his father to collect trash from businesses and homes when he was just five years. Under the leadership of Bill Rumpke, the company has thrived.
