The first Red Robin restaurant opened in Seattle in 1969. The building it was in was originally known as Sam’s Tavern. It was purchased by Gerry Kingen and renamed Red Robin when the restaurant opened 50 years ago. The first Red Robin franchised restaurants opened a decade later. The company is continuing to expand and diversify. Simplified restaurants called Red Robin’s Burger Works have just started rolling out in select US cities.
