Can A Felon Vote In Washington?

Individuals convicted of a felony are ineligible to vote while in prison, on parole, or on probation. Voting rights are automatically restored upon completion of all supervised release. Ex-offenders should re-register to vote. However, the Secretary of State’s website states that persons who have “willfully failed to make three payments in a 12 month period” on any court-imposed fines may have their ability to vote revoked by the prosecutor.

Legislators in the state of Washington permit the provisional reinstatement of voting rights upon the completion of a sentence. However, the sentencing court make take back said rights if a felon does not satisfy their legal financial responsibilities.

How Can A Felon in Washington Restore Their Voting Rights

If you meet the above criteria as a felon, then here are the other requirements before you can register to vote:
You are eligible to vote in Washington if you:
Are a U.S citizen
Are a resident of Washington
Are at least 18 years old by Election Day
Convicted felons should contact their local election official to determine if they need to re-register to vote. In most cases felons are eligible to vote once they are no longer in prison or supervised by the DOC.
You are NOT eligible to vote in Washington if:
You were disqualified from voting due to a court order
To register to vote in Washington you should provide one of the following:
Learner’s Permit
Your Washington Driver’s License Number
Your Washington ID Number
If you do not have these IDs, you may provide:
The Last Four Digits of your Social Security Number
Voting In-Person
In Washington, you need to show a valid ID to vote. You can use any ID from this list:
Valid Washington Driver’s License
Valid Student ID
Valid Tribal ID
Valid Washington Issued ID
Valid Employee ID
